We would like to thank each and every one of you who entered our second annual FacePaint.com Halloween countdown contest! For 31 days in October, we selected one finalist every day, and at the end of the month, we selected one winner!

Instagram Winner

A big congratulations goes out to Cris, @crisalexmua, who won a $500 gift card from FacePaint.com for her amazing exposed muscle face and body paint design! We hope you spoil yourself with some new face paints and tools!

We asked Cris some questions about herself, so we could get to know her a little better!

Tell us a little about yourself!
I’ve been a professional special makeup effects artist for 11 years. I love creating fun face and body paints in my spare time as a hobby. The limitless possibilities of face painting makes it my favorite artistic outlet.

How did you come up with the idea? What's your inspiration?
I love makeup that has fun surprises. Wanted to create two looks in one for an invisible UV effect. Always fascinated with muscle and bone anatomy.

What was difficult about creating your design?
The difficulty I found was trying to get the accuracy in the anatomy. Also painting under black light was a bit tricky.

What products did you use?

  • Skin Illustrator in Coven, Life, Black,White, Bone, and Glo-worm
  • Wolfe FX in Pink Hydrocolor and White

Of course it was not easy to choose the finalists and a winner, as we had hundreds of entries, and all were absolutely amazing! Let's take a quick look at our 30 finalists!

Day 1 Finalist: @cuthbertfx Garbage Pail Kid - Acne Amy

Garbage Pail Kid Face Paint Design

Congrats to our very first finalist, Elizabeth, for her rendition of a Garbage Pail Kid, Acne Amy! So realistic, it's hard to believe!

Tell us a little bit about yourself!
I'm a Preschool teacher, mom, and artist. Makeup is my hobby. I love transforming into something totally different from me.

How did you come up with the idea? What's your inspiration?
I loved and collected Garbage Pail Kids as a child of the Eighties. I wanted to recreate their quirky , tounge in cheek grossness.

What was difficult about creating your design?
The Eye Illusion was the most difficult part along with contouring my face to appear like a three dimensional cartoon.

What products did you use?

Day 2 Finalist: @roxana_letelier Calabaza Look

Calabaza Face Paint

Congrats to our second finalist, Roxana, on this super creepy Calabaza body and face paint design!

Tell us a little bit about yourself!
I am married, I have 2 children, I am a Cosmetologist and I live in Chile (I speak Spanish so I use a translator to be able to communicate). I started 2 years ago with makeup when I went to study cosmetology but before that, I was a country painting teacher and it is that knowledge of light and shadow that I use in my work. Because I am passionate about everything, I can create with makeup only being able to get inspired by anything and create something unique and personalized. This is my passion, this is what moves me.

How did you come up with the idea? What's your inspiration?
I looked for Halloween symbols and one of the first to appear was the pumpkin so I was inspired by it to make my pumpkin terrifying.

What was difficult about creating your design?
The greatest difficulty was trying to make everything harmonious that the wig, butterfly, crown and makeup accessories joined together forming a single concept.

Day 3 Finalist: @lashoutwithashley Jason

Jason Face Paint

Congrats to our 3rd winner, Ashley, on this very realistic Jason look! After all, there wouldn't be Halloween without Jason!

Tell us a little about yourself!
I am 27 years old. Born and raised in Las Vegas . Both my parents have artistic sides. I have done art since elementary school, but really fell in love with art and drawing my senior year of high school when I took drawing and AP art classes. I have loved makeup since about 8th grade when I would do my friends makeup at school. My love for face paint didn't come until around 2011. I found a few face paint artists on YouTube and I would watch them regularly. I didn't do my first face paint until October of 2015. I followed along with a YouTube tutorial for a Mortal Kombat Scorpion look that I did on my sister. I did a few face paints from 2015-2017. 2018 we moved from England back to the states and that is when I began doing more face paintings on myself. That was when I truly fell in love face painting. I love how therapeutic it is for me. Face/body painting has been the creative expression I have been looking for, for a while. I am so glad I found face painting and will forever do it.

How did you come up with the idea? What was your inspiration?
I wanted to do a Friday the 13th look not many others have done. I didn't want to do just a hockey mask face paint. So I think that fueled and inspired me to do something different.

What was difficult about creating your design?
For my design I wanted to go outside of the box with the normal painted on Jason mask. I got inspo from a look Jordan Hanz did and that made me want to do a chest piece. I was looking for cool Jason masks that I could paint on, but I later on decided i wanted to make one. I purchased a hockey mask from the dollar store and used that as my mold for making the mask. For my chest piece I wanted Jason as the center piece and to have a spooky ambiance background. I googled images that I could try and do and it wasn't until I searched for Friday the 13th video game images did I find one to use. There was the perfect image for me to create. I took some things out and added some here and there to make it some what different. That is how I came up with my Friday the 13th look.

What products did you use?
I used crayola model magic to create the mason mask. I painted it with regular acrylic paint and used some black eye shadow from my Karity matte shadow palette to shade.

For the chest painting I used Mehron basics palette. The white highlights were done using Snazaroo white paint and Glamvice white liner. Shading was done using Karity matte shadow palette and Docolor tropical palette. Subtle light shading in the background was done using Sugarpill tako white shadow.

Day 4 Finalist: @Margo.horror_beauty Terminator in Wonderland

Terminator Alice Face Paint

Congrats to our 4th finalist, Margarita, on this Terminator and Alice in Wonderland mashup! Now that's what we call thinking out of the box!

Tell us a little about yourself!
My name is Margarita, I live in the city of Kherson in Ukraine, I began to draw since childhood, my parents supported me and sent me to study at an art school, and later graduated from the university with a degree in graphic design. But I always liked the make-up and I wanted to go beyond the usual make-up, so I began to add body art elements, and found my vocation, I love my work very much, so I do not regret the time for it.

How did you come up with the idea? What was your inspiration?
My image "Terminator in Wonderland" is inspired by two films, I took the idea with TerminatorDarkFate the color scheme is inspired by the series AlteredCarbon I decided to combine two films in one work, inspired by other people's creativity, it is important for me to do something new, and not copy, because I'm an artist, and for me nothing is impossible, I like to invent and create my own creativity.

What was difficult about creating your design?

What products did you use?

  • Kraze FX Fundamentals 12 Color Palette
  • Mehronmakeup Paradise Make-up AQ: Whiteand Black

Day 5 Finalist: @kksparkles_ Algorithm Monster Look

Algorithm Monster Look

Congrats to our 5th finalist, Kristin, on this algorithm monster design that's just out of this world! So unique!

Tell us a little about yourself!
I was introduced to costume makeup and body paint through being a Cosplayer. I started making costumes and going to comic and scifi Conventions about 8 years ago. About 3 years ago I started to really get into body paint and sfx art when creating my cosplay looks. I have been in love with body painting ever since. Characters that I'm often inspired to create are from a variety of areas; Halloween, horror, scifi, gaming, fantasy, witchy, anime, Disney, and the list goes on. I truly love this hobby and the friends I have met along my journey!

How did you come up with the idea? What was your inspiration?
I was inspired to show how I see the Instagram algorithm if it had a form. That form I see it as is a zombie demon that eats up posts and engagement. I was also inspired by art from 2 artists @pigeon_pie_art and @robisreal

What was difficult about creating your design?
It was a long paint. It took about 6 hours and I was getting impatient at the end but I had to remember to add all the small details in. That was probably the most difficult for me.

What products did you use?

  • Mehron Makeup Paradise Aqua Paints
  • Woochiefx Large Universal Horns and Spirit Gum
  • Benicci Art Detail Brushes

Day 6 Finalist: @kristallure.fx Creepy Beetle Look

Beetle Face Paint

Congrats to our 6th finalist, Krista, on this super gross and creepy beetle look! We wouldn't want this to become a reality!

Tell us a little about yourself!
My name is Krista. I'm a self-taught makeup artist from Michigan. I started face painting back in March of this year (2019). I always loved makeup and painting my face for Halloween. I soon discovered how amazing and creative the makeup community is and I decided I wanted to take the plunge and make a career out of my passion. I absolutely love sitting in front of a mirror and painting away. There's something so therapeutic about it. I love the art form and pushing myself to see what I can transformation into. I'm learning every day in hopes to get better and make my dream come true!

How did you come up with the idea? What was your inspiration?
I've been seeing a lot of beetlejuice looks lately and thought, what about painting actual realistic beetles? I wanted to do something creepy, yet glam at the same time and I haven't really played with sfx materials that much, so I just went for it and hoped for the best!

What was difficult about creating your design?
It was SO tedious to paint the same beetle over and over again and try to make them realistic. I painted 34 beetles and by the end of it I told myself I was never painting so many beetles ever again.

What products did you use?

Congrats to our 7th finalist, Sarah, on her rendition of Hellblade Senuas Sacrifice's Hela look! Dare we say this is extremely creepy?!

Tell us a little about yourself!
I started facepainting about 2.5 years ago. I love it so much, because it can transform someone into something or someone completely different.

How did you come up with the idea? What was your inspiration?
I love the video-game Hellblade Senuas Sacrifice and when the character of Hela appeared I knew I needed to recreate her.

What products did you use?

Day 8 Finalist: @aluhhhsonsfx Exorcist Look

Exorcist Face Paint Design

Congrats to our 8th finalist, Alison on this nightmare inducing exorcist look! Can't look away...but would like to!

Tell us a little about yourself!
I randomly started facepainting back in college when I couldn't afford to buy a Halloween costume, and I just instantly fell in love with it and have been slowly working on my makeup ever since!

How did you come up with the idea? What was your inspiration?
Inspired heavily by The Exorcist, one of my all time favorite horror movies.

What was difficult about creating your design?
Doing a full body paint is always challenging, especially when you're trying to cover your hands and feet! But the hardest part was definitely the posing, I'm pretty flexible but holding those poses long enough to get pictures was so hard.😂 Fully worth it!

What products did you use?

Day 9 Finalist: @expressyourselfcrystal Beetlejuice Pop Art

Pop Art Beetlejuice

Congrats to our 9th finalist, Crystal, on this pop art version of Beetlejuice! It's truly a work of pop art!

Tell us a little about yourself!
I am a full time social worker and self taught with makeup and face paint. I love painting kid’s faces and trying to make myself look like other people!

How did you come up with the idea? What was your inspiration?
Inspired by a Beetlejuice movie poster by Vance Kelly.

What was difficult about creating your design?
Getting dimensions adjusted from the poster to my body was difficult. I wanted to truly represent the incredible shading style of the poster artist.

What products did you use?

Day 10 Finalist: @raeofsunshinebeauty Skeleton Pirate

Skeleton Pirate Face Paint

Congrats to our 10th finalist, Rachelle, on this skeleton pirate that's worthy of Pirates of the Caribbean! Arr matey!

Tell us a little about yourself!
I began putting my creative ideas into painted work on myself about 6 years ago. Since then I've continued to challenge myself and learn everything I can to become a better artist. I've studied different face and body painting techniques and practiced more times than I can count! I'm always trying to better my artistry and try to teach the things I've learned to others in the process.

How did you come up with the idea? What was your inspiration?
Painting skulls is one of my favorite things to do and since a young age I have loved pirates! I wanted to combine two of my favorite things and really challenge myself with all the details in the skull and clothing!

What was difficult about creating your design?
This creation was incredibly difficult for me to achieve as it is based off of all the deatils! Painting skull and bones is 90% the details and highlighting and shading. The clothing was equally difficult as the highlight, shading and details are critical to make it look realistic. This paint took about 6 hours to complete!

What products did you use?

Day 11 Finalist: @nuke.beach Giraffe Illusion

Giraffe Illusion Face Paint

Congrats to our 11th finalist, Heather, on this incredible giraffe illusion design, that's completely out of this world! Is this really a person? You bet!

Tell us a little about yourself!
I started to do my own “31 looks of Halloween” a few years ago as a challenge to myself by using just drugstore makeup, moving on to drugstore cream paints and finally landing into actual facepaint. I’d say my heaviest inspiration is Lex from @madeyewlook. Watching her tutorials made it seem fun, so I gave it a try!

How did you come up with the idea? What was your inspiration?
I separate all of my Halloween looks into 10 categories of three. For the “animal” category I wanted to try something challenging and something that I loved and landed on Giraffe after I’d already done a Panda and Gorilla. :)

What was difficult about creating your design?
Making the giraffe was a gamble for me. I didn’t know how I would ever make him look 3 dimensional since they have such long faces. I like to take pictures of the look as I go so I can see how well it photographs which helps keep me in the right direction and it all sort of fell into place.

What products did you use?

Day 12 Finalist: @beiy02 Joker Look

Joker Face Paint Design

Congrats to our 12th finalist, Lp, on this mesmerizing joker look! It's almost as if it's trying to hypnotize us!

Tell us a little about yourself!
Art lover and diy creator.

How did you come up with the idea? What was your inspiration?
Inspiration and imagination.

What was difficult about creating your design?
Sfx effect.

What products did you use?

Day 13 Finalist: @causeandfx Twitch Look

Congrats to our 13th finalist, Tagen, who created this super unique Twitch look! This isn't your regular Easter bunny!

Tell us a little about yourself!
I'm Tagen Crossley! I am 25 years old and live on Cape Cod, MA. I am a self taught makeup artist! I got into painting and FX when I was around 13. I used to love watching horror movies with my dad. I would sometimes get scared so to prevent that I tried to breakdown the movies and what made them scary. And that's when I started learning that I could turn myself into all the scary monsters and creatures! And it was a passion I've followed since. I love the freedom of creativity in painting. I have anxiety so painting helps me hone in and focus when I'm feeling anxious or sad. It's a stress reliever for me and a way to express and make.something of my own.

How did you come up with the idea? What was your inspiration?
TWITCH from @leagueoflegends !! "Twitch is plague rat by birth, a connoisseur of filth by passion, Twitch is a paranoid and mutated rat that walks upright. Armed with a chem-powered crossbow, Twitch is not afraid to get his paws dirty as he builds a throne of refuse in his kingdom of filth, endlessly plotting the downfall of humanity. Twitch hurls a cask that adds a stack of deadly venom to all enemies struck and leaves behind a toxic cloud".

What was difficult about creating your design?
The most difficult part of this design for me was the prosthetic nose! I've never been taught how to make prosthetics and have only tried very small things before. But after a few nights or practice I was able to make something I was happy with! I loved making all the little pieces and props for this look too!

What products did you use?

Day 14 Finalist: @xxtoxicjerixx Krypt Keeper Design

Krypt Keepr Face Paint Design

Congrats to our 14th finalist, Jeri, on this creepy Krypt Keeper design! So realistic and so scary!

Tell us a little about yourself!
I have been face/body painting for about 3 years now. Face painting is the perfect creative outlet to combine my love of art and makeup.

How did you come up with the idea? What was your inspiration?
This entry is a recreation of the iconic Crypt Keeper from “Tales from the Crypt”.

What was difficult about creating your design?
This character definitely lends itself much better to prosthetic work. With that being said, translating that into just face paint was certainly a difficult challenge!

What products did you use?
Mehron Paradise Paint

Day 15 Finalist: @dewowfactorbykirsten Popart Bombshell Zombie

Popart Bombshell Zombie Face Paint Design

Congrats to our 15th finalist, Kirsten, on this popart bomshell zombie that's truly a unique work of pop art!

Tell us a little about yourself!
My name is Kirsten Oerlemans and I recently turned 40. I started facepainting about two years ago since 1.5 years I am participating in daily challenges (Dutch schminkchallenge and Inspiration to paint) that had really developed my creativity. This also motivated me to start a business in facepainting earlier this year I love to work with kids and bring smiles to their faces, but also to transform adults into something else. Facepainting is also a major creative outlet for me!

How did you come up with the idea? What was your inspiration?
I wanted to make a more cartoon version for a zombie. When I did the face I couldn’t resist adding a body. I love making these big face type of paints.

What was difficult about creating your design?
I actually had a lot of fun painting this. What makes or breaks a design like this is placement. Adding the right amount of shading and highlights is what makes the actual design pop.

What products did you use?

Day 16 Finalist: @sleepylaura Lady Death Design

Lady Death Body Paint

Congrats to our 16th finalist,Laura, on this Lady Death body paint design! This body paint looks straight out of a video game!

Tell us a little about yourself!
My name is Laura and I am currently a full time medical student and aspiring physician. I started face and body painting 2 years ago around Halloween time. I was inspired by other artists and wanted to use myself as a canvas to bring characters to life. I love face painting because it gives you the ability to transform yourself and become everyone’s favorite fictional characters. It’s a beautiful art form that allows you to express both creativity and skill.

How did you come up with the idea? What was your inspiration?
I was inspired by the Chaos Comics character Lady Death. I loved her simple color palette and how powerful she looked.

What was difficult about creating your design?
The most difficult part of the design was trying to balance the comic-like appearance with some aspects of realism.

What products did you use?

  • Mehron Paradise AQ paints in Black, White, Red, and Yellow
  • Morphe Eyeshadows
  • Ohmykitty White Mesh Contact Lenses

Day 17 Finalist: @baric.josipa Mars Attacks! Design

Mars Attacks Face Paint Design

Congrats to our 17th finalist, Josipa, on her rendition of Mars Attacks! This design is eerily similar to the real thing, don't you think?!

Tell us a little about yourself!
I started facepainting 2 years ago...love the way you can change your look by using diferent shades and colors...but I need more to learn..

How did you come up with the idea? What was your inspiration?
I found a photo of plastic Martian doll on Pinterest and I had to try it - it looked really funny and cool, plus it's an old movie so it took me back to my childhood.

What was difficult about creating your design?
Had to make a big head, so I used a heart shaped ballon and flour water and paper. I covered ballon with paper and brushed it with a mix of water and flour, and that was my glue. When it dried, I popped the ballon and cut the shape so it could fit my head, so that was challenging!

What products did you use?

Day 18 Finalist: @kuferneko Gingerbread Witch

Gingerbread Witch Face Paint Design

Congrats to our 18th finalist, Justyna, on this gingerbread witch mashup! Hansel and Gretel don't stand a chance!

Tell us a little about yourself!
I am a self-taught facepainter from Poland. I became interested in facepainting three years ago when I started working as an entertainer at children's parties. However, a year ago I became interested in facepainting and bodypainting more seriously, I paint and publish every day, I take part in competitions and I am happy to be part of the facepainting community. I love to express myself through painting and watch my skills increase every day.

How did you come up with the idea? What was your inspiration?
I wanted to create something in the spirit of Halloween, but referring to the classic fairy tales of the Grimm brothers. I came up with the idea of a gingerbread witch from a fairy tale about Hansel and Gretel. She wears gingerbread clothing, which is also the frame for the most famous scene of this story painted on the witch's decolletage.

What was difficult about creating your design?
I wanted the composition to look as a coherent whole.

What products did you use?

Day 19 Finalist: @jasa_mayotte Deviled Jack-o-Lantern Look

Deviled Jack-O-Lantern Face Paint Design

Congrats to our 19th finalist, Jasa, on this deviled jack-o-lantern mashup look! It's the definition of Halloween!

Tell us a little about yourself!
I’ve always been artistic but I really shine when it comes to face panting and special effects. I always did my makeup for Halloween but back in 2015 I went to school as a road kill bunny and then everyone noticed me, every one took pictures with me, I felt famous, so I just kept doing more looks. I wanted to go to MUD but couldn’t afford to go, so now Halloween is just my side hobby, one day I hope to continue my dream!

How did you come up with the idea? What was your inspiration?
I was inspired by @gothpixi devil Jacko lantern. She came up with the horns. I made the design my own by making mine more of a demon devil face with the smile of a jack o lantern, and the vines on my chest like a skeleton. So mine is a mash up of a jacko lantern demon devil and skeleton!

What was difficult about creating your design?
It’s a very fun simple design, I think any beginner could do it, there’s no wrong way. You need warm water to soak the plastic in to mold out the shape of your horns, then you map out what type of pumpkin you want to be and paint it in. Shade to add depth and contrast and use black paint to detail up the shape, and highlights in yellow! Then glue on the horns into place!

What products did you use?

  • Mehron Paradise Paints
  • Morph Plastic
  • Beauty Treats Eyeshadow Palette
  • CCBeauty Professional Cosmetics 12 Flash Color Case
  • Ben Nye SG-2 Spirit Gum 7D1
  • “Contacts “ was an edit from the app EyeColorizerFree.
  • Picture taken on canon 60D.

Day 20 Finalist: @kellybrycemua Scarecrow Illusion

Scarecrow Illusion Face Paint Design

Congrats to our 20th finalist, Kelly, on this cool scarecrow illusion! So good, it'll make you do a triple take!

Tell us a little about yourself!
I started makeup about 10 years ago. I am an artist by nature and decided to explore makeup as another form of art. I’ve always been drawn to the face & body painting side of makeup but truly started focusing on it about 3 years ago. I love doing illusion makeup where your brain really has to think about what you’re seeing. I also love to keep an element of humour and cartoon to a lot of what I do.

How did you come up with the idea? What was your inspiration?
I didn’t have any direct inspiration for this look. I love doing illusion makeup and thought it would be fun to do a fun authentic scarecrow with the stick “arms” and overalls hanging off it.

What was difficult about creating your design?
I think the overalls were most difficult. I always find clothing a little difficult, getting the texture and folds of it. I try to make it as real as possible, but still maintain the cartoon element I like to put in my makeup looks.

What products did you use?

Day 21 Finalist: @lena.makeupartist Zucca Splash Illusion Painting

Zucca Face Paint Design

Congrats to our 21st finalist, Marlena, on this Zucca Splash illusion! We can't even tell where her head is!

Tell us a little about yourself!
I started studying as a makeup artist getting more and more intetested in the special effect side and creating monsters. For a couple of years I have been taking part in national bodypainting championship in the face category. Initially i didn't think I could make it, but I want to try, starting to have more awareness and experience. Now, it's all my being, I want to paint, create, trasform for all the days to come.

How did you come up with the idea? What was your inspiration?
I love Halloween and all that is horror, and this year I wanted to recreate a traditional element but in my way, more dramatic whit more blood.

What was difficult about creating your design?
Not too much, when I have an idea, I draw it on any piece of paper as soon as possible. When I find a theme that I'd like to turn into face paint, the head starts to process so many things, so I start drawing a lot. Sometimes I look for inspiration from manga and comics, but in this case the idea was obvious.

What products did you use?

Day 22 Finalist: @misfitmusebodypainting Snow White Design

Scary Snowwhite Face Paint

Congrats to our 22nd finalist, Erin, on this very creepy and creative Snow White look! Would definitely not want to take a bite out of that apple!

Tell us a little about yourself!
As a mom of 3, I wanted to show my children that following your dreams was something attainable and worth while. I have always loved art, but when the human form became my canvas, I knew I found my greatest passion. With face and body painting, art really comes to life.

How did you come up with the idea? What was your inspiration?
I actually bought Tinsley Transfer boils from Facepaint.com and thought they would be just perfect for a poisoned Snow White look!

What was difficult about creating your design?
I wanted Snow to be both beautiful and scary. Her dress was the biggest challenge.

What products did you use?

Day 23 Finalist: @inthemirror_hu Carved Pumpkin Look

Carved Pumpkin Face Paint

Congrats to our 23rd finalist, Valentina, on this super scary carved pumpkin look! This is definitely something that'll give us pumpkin nightmares!

Tell us a little about yourself!
I started doing facepaints a couple of years ago. I fell in love with it. I studied drawing and painting in university so I tried to involve the things I learned in bodypainting. Everyday I learn new things and I'm always evolving along the way. I was trying to find my own style during the years and I think I'm almost there but there is always much more to learn.

How did you come up with the idea? What was your inspiration?
I wanted to do a creepy and spooky pumpkin head makeup. I really like creating looks like this so I mixed the pumpkin and a skeleton and I got this mix.

What was difficult about creating your design?
It was hard to paint the mouth area, to cover my lips perfectly and sell the illusion. The eyes were pretty hard too, to achieve a sunked in look, but with a light in the eye sockets.

What products did you use?

Day 24 Finalist: @caykeface Starry Halloween Night Design

Starry Halloween Night Design

Congrats to our 24th finalist, KT, on this starry Halloween night design! This has got all the right elements of Halloween!

Tell us a little about yourself!
I’ve been into art ever since I was little. I got into face painting 6 years ago because I fell in love with makeup in movies. Makeup is my escape from reality!

How did you come up with the idea? What was your inspiration?
I was inspired by another artist KosmicKatie and Vincent Van Gogh.

What was difficult about creating your design?
Making it abstract! I don’t do a lot of abstract art so this what the most difficult part.

What products did you use?

Day 25 Finalist: @mckenziecatron Twilight Zone Look

Twilight Zone Face Paint Design

Congrats to our 25th finalist, McKenzie, on this Twilight Zone look! We love the unique use of black and white paints!

Tell us a little about yourself!
Hi there! My name is McKenzie and I am a disabled creative makeup artist. I’ve been doing face and body painting for the last seven years! It started out as a hobby but I’ve been given amazing opportunities like being a finalist in the 2017 AND 2019 Face Awards. A year and a half ago I became chronically ill and wheelchair bound. For me, painting my face has become my escape and creative outlet. It’s the last piece of my old life that I have and I will continue to hold on to it! It allows me to become whomever or whatever I want and express myself in the most unique way possible!

How did you come up with the idea? What was your inspiration?
The Twilight Zone has always been a classic, especially around Halloween time. It’s full of mystery, darkness and monochromatic horrors! There’s nothing quite like tumbling and swirling into the captive world of The Twilight Zone.

What was difficult about creating your design?
My design features a monochromatic palette true to the classic Twilight Zone show. It’s complete with a black and white swirling tunnel, starry night sky, Rod Serling’s silhouette smoking through a door into the Twilight zone and trippy contacts!

What products did you use?

Day 26 Finalist: @costumeize_it  Edgar Allen Poe Inspired Design

Edgar Allen Poe Face Paint Design

Congrats to our 26th finalist, Candice,on this Edgar Allen Poe inspired design! What a creative and unique design!

Tell us a little about yourself!
I’m Candice, a mother to my niece and nephew, and an all around artist. I first started face painting for Halloween but when I realized there was a huge family of face/body painters I really got into in January of this year. Art is my passion and my meditation.

How did you come up with the idea? What was your inspiration?
I absolutely love Edgar Allen Poe. I came across an amazing art piece and decided it was perfect for a face paint.

What was difficult about creating your design?
I loved creating this design! The hardest part had to be trying to keep both props on my shoulders while also taking a picture of my look.

Day 27 Finalist: @nadiasanchezmakeup Female Jack Skellington

Female Jack Skellington

Congrats to our 27th finalist, Nadia, on her rendition of a female Jack Skellington! Perfect for Halloween!

Tell us a little about yourself!
I started doing catrina makeup for an altar of the day of the dead and from there I loved it and there began my love for this art.

How did you come up with the idea? What was your inspiration?
I was inspired by the character of Jack Skellington and a makeup of a girl named vocallyshock. I wanted to make my eyes more glamorous with shine and with a cute round crease to give it the shape of the skeleton gaps.

What was difficult about creating your design?
The most difficult were the eyes, since in order to fit the circular shape I had to do it very carefully and blur a lot to create the effect I wanted.

Exposed Muscles Body Paint Design

Congrats to our 29th finalist and also our winner of the second annual Halloween contest! A well deserved win on this super realistic design!

Day 31: @ingashenna Joker Design

Joker Face Paint Design

Last but certainly not least, congrats to our 31st finalist, Inga, on this Joker face paint design! We definitely wouldn't want to see him at our door!

Tell us a little about yourself!
My name is Inga. I am 33 years old ,from Lviv (Ukraine). I am a face and  painter body-art painter ,henna artist working with children since 2014. My experience: 2011-Lviv Lumines Festival (master class from neon body -painting) 2012-organised master class on Exteme art festival(neon colors in body painting) 2013-2015 many master classes from henna art(mehendi) on local festivals 2016 -second place in international body painting competitions on Tattoo Collection fest.(Kiev) 2018-certificaled on Ukrainian Bodypainting Awards 2018 from World Bodypainting Association.

To be honest, I started my bodypainting when I was kid. Mom told me that when I was 3 yrs old, I always took markers and painted my own tummy and legs. After, I was trying to create some eye arts in high school . But in 2001, it was very hard to find good products. Actually at that time, there were no products in my country. My body still remembers how uneasy it was to wash off gouache and acryl. Now I like face painting veyr much because nowadays there are so many good products for this. Today I mostly work in "brush and sponge " category, but aerograpghy is also very interesting. Makeup skills are also very important in facepainting. It's a very multifunctional genre where artists can grow, inspire and always try something new! Really love what I'm doing!

How did you come up with the idea? What was your inspiration?
Let me introduce you to my design which is called "Soul of Joker". I created it on a model because some make up lifehacks are possible only on male face(like deep wrinkles on forehead which i made with airbrush and eyeshadows). So who is he ,our creature? Simple looser or cruel killer? Or just a lonely soul who is looking for his place under the sun? Sometimes enough one good song or new movie to be so creative and inspired! Cause art is everywhere. We only need to catch in on the end of brush (or airbrush in this case). My goal was to create an illusion of messy clown make up because in the movie Joker 2019, we can see two versions -typical clown make up and messy variation. I hope that mood of loneliness and inner conflict are present in this face art. Cause sometimes under bright colors may be hidden some inner pain or another try to be somebody. Personal war against own fears or against society is under the clown mask. We never know how anger will work. It can destroy outer reality . But also can be self-distruction. "Soul of Joker" - its my try to show this inner mood , this inner war.

What was difficult about creating your design?
Actually this desingn its a mix of brush and sponge technique, aerography and creative makeup. Fist I made the foundation with air brush and green hair. Afterwards, I worked on the details with a sponge and linework . And in the end, I used makeup brushes for making some messy effect on the Joker's face (wrinkles, temples -all was covered with dry pigments). It took only one hour for the entire design. I really like to mix different techniques and skills, and I'm always trying to create something creative and new.
