Face paint brand review.

Posted by Russ Kennedy on

With so many face paint brands on the market it can be difficult to keep up on who is delivering what and how good is the quality of face paint.  We try covering the bases here at facepaint.com with a variety of high quality brands like Mehron, Snazaroo, Ben Nye and more to give our consumers the best shopping experience possible. With this wide selection comes the opportunity to find a face paint you like at a price that works for your budget or specific project. On our homepage you will find great color photos of the paint kits, individual paint cakes and color swatches on the skin to help you see the final result.

Today we are going to show you a few samples of some of our popular brands and give you the chance to see them side-by-side before you purchase something new. Now it would take several hours to go through all of the brands and colors available (trust me I’ve done it) so we will just pick a couple brands to look at today.  We spun the color wheel and it landed on, Ben Nye, Diamond and one of our newest brands Ruby Red; so let’s take a look at the standard palette on each of these brands.

Ben Nye Magicake

Ben Nye Magicake

* Ben Nye Magicake has a 12 color standard palette including white, black and brown, which can make help you create almost any basic face paint design.  Ben Nye has been in the makeup business for years and has delivered quality face paint to the consumers. The packaging for this is like that of a true artist’s kit; individual paint cakes set in a metal tin for safe keeping, the colors are labeled in the tin for easy reordering and the cakes do pop out for easy replacement. I did find this palette needed a little extra work to get the paints to the opacity I like but nothing that would set me off from using them on a regular basis. Just like other makeup products form the Ben Nye line, blending colors is very easy with this face paint collection. You can see for yourself that the paints look great on the skin vibrant true colors and clean up well with soap and water. The Magicake palette does come in at a higher price tag in the $40.00 range but to the serious face painter the quality of this kit is worth the investment.

Diamond Standard

Diamond Standard

*  Diamond standard palette is next. This is a newer product for us and comes in from the Netherlands.  This paint pleased me right away with its larger cake sizes, handy plastic jewel case and a quality brush included. We are reviewing the 6 color basic set that has one of the nicest blues I have seen in face paints yet. You do not need to go heavy with water at all as these paints activate quite quickly, a mist from a spray bottle proved to be a good method. This palette delivers rich deep colors that would useful to produce amazing contrast in a face paint design, not to mention the white is very brilliant. The individual paint cups come out for easy replacement or if you wish to use the paint out of the holding case.  Diamond, like most face paints, cleans up easy with soap and water. The larger Diamond palette is in the S40.00 range like the Ben Nye Magicake, but this 6-color set is a little sweeter in the $25.00 price range. We can expect great things from Diamond in the future.

Ruby Classic

Ruby Classic

*Last in our review today is the newest brand in our catalog, Ruby Red. This generous 8 color classic color set deliveries both in performance and affordability. Brought to you by Gary Cole who has been in the face paint business for many years. This product strives to be one of the gentlest for human skin on the market, steering way from ingredients that may cause allergic reactions in some people. The colors in the basic kit not only are easy to activate with water but stand up to the more expensive brands in pigment and saturation of color. Replacement colors can also be ordered but the blister pack palette does not have removable cups for each color. Clean up with Ruby Red is very easy with a wet wipe or soap and water. One of the most attractive features of Ruby Red is that it retails for around $12.00 making this a great value, especially if you are doing a large function on a small budget.

As always we hope the information we share helps you while considering the purchase of a new product.
