Gretchen Fleener started painting faces 28 years ago, and since has also taken up balloon twisting, henna and glitter tattoos. She is the owner of Paintertainment.com, an online retailer of face painting products and a local provider of event entertainment in Minnesota.

Ever get hung up on where and how to place your highlights and shadows in your designs? Then this class is made for you! Through the use of visual examples, Gretchen will first explain the:

  • Principles behind shadows and highlights, a better understanding of where to place them and how to make your work look more realistic. 
  • Step by step through your own painted 3D illusion in the palm of your hand.
  • Opportunities to apply the things that you’ve learned.

Products needed:

  • Pen and paper for notes
  • Your favorite round brushes, a #1-2 and a #4-6.
  • Standard colors of your favorite face paints
  • A black and white in both glycerine and wax based

Meet the Instructor

Gretchen’s degree in industrial design and background in retail and product design have honed her skills in realistically capturing the 3 dimensional world in 2 dimensional mediums. She loves to apply this knowledge to the world of face and body art, creating works of art that make you do a double take! She has taught workshops on everything from quick and bold cheek art and on-the-job festival faces to photo-realistic eyeballs and jewelry. She loves to share her knowledge through her growing assortment of self published books, blog, YouTube channel and Wet Paint Magazine, as well as teaching workshops across the globe!
