Keep it Together

IMG_0004

For those of you with kids in school I’m sure the last few weeks have been spent shopping for school supplies; back backs, pencil boxes, folders, binders and lunch boxes, all so the kiddies have things in order for the school year. That is until they announce losing their lunch box or misplacing the binder full of school work….arrgh!

So what about you, do you have your painting supplies well organized? We’ve mentioned in past articles about looking professional, and one way to do so is have your supplies kept in a professional looking manner. Now this doesn’t mean you have to spend thousands of dollars on cases and accessories but you do want to budget some money to put towards cases to protect your paints and supplies. Here are some ideas for you to consider.

Empty palette

Did you know you can purchase an empty palette and fill it with the face paint colors of your choice? Most of the major brands like Wolfe, TAG, Snazaroo all have palettes available ready to be filled with your selection of paint cakes. These are great for storing and transporting your paints as well as a good working station. Starting at $25.00 this is a reasonable price to keep those paints safe. Another item is the hand held color wheel that you would load at your gig making it convenient to move around while still having your paints at your fingertips. These start as low as 5 bucks!

You can also purchase casesto keep brushes neat, clean and protected from getting damaged rolling around in a carrying case.

How about a carrying case for all your supplies. There are a number of makeup cases available in various styles and sizes but these can get a bit costly. I have found success with believe it or not, tackle boxes. They are durable, have more styles than you can imagine, and if you have ever fished you know that tackle boxes have tons of little compartments to keep those hooks and line from getting tangled. Many of the tackle boxes open up from the top like a professional makeup case having the tiered shelving that pulls up and out. You also will find the prices to be very comfortable on the pocket book, I just purchased a medium sized box for around $40.00. Most tackle boxes also have removable dividers in the drawers so you can retro fit them for your specific needs.

If you are a Snazaroo fan, they do have a kit loaded and ready to go for just a little over $200.00.

The fact of the matter is, after you have spent good money on quality paints and supplies you don’t want them getting ruined by rolling around in shopping bags. Also, you want to have some pride in yourself and look professional as you arrive to the job. We mentioned this before, if you want to be treated as a professional you must look professional. Another point in keeping your kit organized you will find it easier to work, if you have to hunt for supplies this will cut down on your efficiency.
