Are you a fan of airbrushing? Airbrushing has been a big part of face and body art in recent years. With the proliferation of airbrush machines and dozens of brands offering airbrush paints, no wonder it became a big industry in its own.
Getting your own airbrush machine entails a lot of things. You need to know how to properly use it and how to properly maintain it. An airbrush machine could cost you thousands of dollars and it breaking will be a big loss!
So, Athena Zhe created this step-by-step guide on how to clean your Iwata Revolution Airbrush.
This is how you clean your airbrush:
First, you detach the wire, then you take all of the pieces apart. There are a lot of small pieces, so just be careful not to lose any of them. Then there is a little baby wrench. You only use this to unscrew, but you never use it when you want to put the airbrush back together. And you'll use the wrench only for the very top nozzle - it's the smallest part of the airbrush.
After you've disasembled most of the airbrush, it's very important to move the needle out towards where the paint is going. The reason you're doing this is because if you move the needle the opposite way, the paint can get into the actual mechanism of the brush, and it's going to be nearly impossible to clean. Finally, you take the top part off.
Now I'm going to take a small piece of paper towel, and dip it in airbrush cleaning liquid and wipe off my needle. Make sure it's nice and clean before you go to the next step. Also the pipe cleansers are very useful when you're cleaning your airbrush. Now I'm going to use the biggest pipe cleaner, dip it a little bit in alcohol or airbrush cleanser, and clean it nicely.
This tiny little piece is crucial when it comes to airbrushing. It's super small, so a lot of people lose it. In this case, what I do, the only way to clean it, is to actually use the airbrush needle. So I'm going to dip the needle into my airbrush cleansing liquid, and I will put it right inside of my nozzle. I'm taking the needle in and out of the nozzle and turning the nozzle at the same time. Just be careful not to push the needle too hard, because you can actually crack the end of the nozzle.
The next step will be to clean the actual body of the airbrush. I like to pour a little bit of the cleansing liquid inside and as you're rinsing it right through, I'm going to insert my smallest pipe cleaner inside to clean the inside of the airbrush.
Then I'm going to take exactly the same size of pipe cleaner, bring it through, and put it inside as well to clean the other part of the airbrush.
Now it's time to put your airbrush back together!
