Jigglypuff is a cute little pink balloon character in the Pokémon series. How could I resist painting this charming little creature when pink is my favorite color! The girls will love it! Be on the lookout for Jigglypuff in the new movie, “Detective Pikachu.”
Follow these simple steps to create Jigglypuff!
Step One: Outline
I like to paint a quick rough outline of my design so that I know where the background will go. It doesn’t have to be perfect. When you become familiar with a design, you can leave this step out.
Step Two: Pink Base
Using a sponge, apply the SuperStar Pink as your background color. I tried to go around the areas that would be a different color... like the eyes and the tuft of hair in the center. If you get a little paint outside your borders, simply clean it up with a baby wipe.
Step Three: One-Stroke
To give a pop of color other than pink, I added yellow to the design. I made a one-stroke using Superstar Majestic Magenta, Wolfe Pink, and TAG Regular Yellow. Using a one-stroke adds highlights and shadows quickly. With a quick stroke of the three colors, I added the tuft of hair, the background border around the whole design, the little arms and feet, and inside the ears.
Step Four: Eyes
Next, add the eyes. I painted the white part first with a #2 round brush. Then followed with the Petrol Blue iris in a large round circle. I painted a short black arch at the top of the circles and with a small filbert dry brush, blended the black into the petrol blue to give it depth.
Step Five: Stencil
Add some white details using the Ooh! Unicorn Stencil pictured. I love how the Ooh! Stencils are rounded to fit perfectly with the shape of the face.
Step Six: Outline
Superstar Berry Wine is a great alternative to black when it comes to outlining. I used it to outline the majority of this design with a #2 round brush. Paint a small mouth on the nose while you have this color on your brush.
Step Seven: Black Details
With a #2 round brush, paint a black outline around the eyes and add lashes if you wish. Also be sure to paint around the little mouth and tongue.
Step Eight: White Details
Add highlights, teardrops and dots using white with a #2 round brush. White always adds so much to a design. It makes the colors come to life!
Step Nine: Glitter and Lips
Finally, add the sparkle! First, I applied a glitter glue over the areas that I wanted to put my glitter and then applied the glitter. This works great over paint! I used two colors of glitter...Chunky magenta over the magenta section of the tuft of hair and fine orange glitter over the center portion of the tuft of hair. This really gave a nice sparkly focal point to the design. Adding magenta lips with glitter completes the look.
It was so much fun to see this design come to life! Always remember that you can change things up and/or simplify any design by eliminating some the steps that are “extras” like glitter, lips, etc. Have fun trying out this design or any of the other great Pokémon designs!
