When Would I Ever Use Neon?

My first experience using UV paint was over 15 yrs ago.  I was hired to create a make up design for a dance troupe who had a routine employing Black lights for the sets, the dancers wanted to compliment the scenery. My research led me to Kryolan Aquacolor body paints and the results were exactly what the troupe was hoping for. Since that time I have seen photographers use this with live models in fashion shows, at huge dance parties and many other artistic performances, always delivering breathtaking results. I do find that using the florescent tube style of black light works best for any type of UV work whether on people or objects.

How well does it go on?

The Neon face paints of the major brands like TAG, Wolfe, Kryolan etc. go on about the same as the regular body paints. You may find some of the colors need extra attention but nothing too dramatic. Keeping the paint on the dryer side seems to work best. Have a black light handy during painting, this will aide you in seeing what your end result will be, often times I will do the entire make up under the black light to help my process. Blocking out certain parts of the subjects face or body with black paint is an excellent way to draw attention to your work especially if the makeup is for a skeleton. If there is one draw back to Neon paint, for me it would be that any little smudge can show more readily than a regular face paint, but wet wipes still do a great job of fixing goofs. Clean up is virtually the same as any other body paint using soap and water.

This design was created with Kryolan Day Glow Effects palette and Kryolan black body paint, the results are really astounding. With the colors being so brilliant, neon can also enhance a regular face paint design with out the black light.
