How do you handle it when you're face painting at a large event and the organizers oversell tickets for the face painting? 

The Swirly Girlies challenge group I'm a member of recently completed a dark fairy challenge, and I thought I'd share the results of my dark fairy inspired by Annie Reynolds' style with you. 

If you're relatively new as a face painter, you may never have thought to service your previous clients with emails or phone calls, but failing to make contact early in the year can cost you some of your best regular customers.

This design made it's first appearance within the pages my sketchbook while I was doodling. You never know what's going to come out of your pen or pencil, and you should keep a sketchbook to catch those ideas before they get away. 

You pick up the phone to find a concerned mom on the other end. Her daughter's face seemed to be overly red after they removed the face paint. Is it an allergic reaction? What should she do? As a face painter, you feel immediate concern for the child and also for your business. This is the call you have hoped you will never receive.

What's not to admire in Karen Harvey-Huwen's amazing floral designs? Each colorful example of her work is a lovely combination of spontaneity and skill, so when the Swirly Girlies collaboration group I'm a member of chose a challenge with Karen's style as our inspiration, I had a wonderful time giving it a go. 

The first time a child asked me for an owl design, my mind went blank, and I couldn't even remember what an owl looked like. Having enjoyed some of Barbara Breitung's cute owl designs and tutorials, though, I thought I'd give owls another try, but with Mehron Intense powders.

When I asked my model what he'd like, he said he wanted a full face rocket ship, so that's what we did for this tutorial. 

If you struggle with butterflies, I hope this design with elements inspired by several of my favorite artists, such as Annie Reynolds and Denise Cold, will be something you enjoy painting.
