Broken Doll Face Makeup Tutorial

Hello everyone!

Today I’m going to show you how to paint this broken doll face paint, perfect for Halloween season or to surprise all your friends at any costume party!

In this face paint tutorial, I’m recreating an Ashley Love watercolor illustration that I love so much! Check out her awesome work here!

Don’t forget to tag me on social media if you dare to recreate it! (and also give credit to Ashley Love for the original design).

Step 1:

Use black paint and a #2 round brush to draw the shape of each fragment in which the doll breaks. Cover half of the right eyebrow if necessary, and make up each fragment with a very clear concealerand a short filbert brush.

Step 2:

Fill the rest of the face with black, including the eye that is outside the fragments. Use a small flat brush.

Step 3:

Add shading to the fragments with pink eyeshadow and a blending brush. With a precision brush, use a red eyeshadow to give even more depth in the shadow zone.

Step 4:

Start to paint an eye in the largest fragment of the forehead. I used my own eye as a reference. Start painting the shape with a #1 round brush and light brown paint. With the same brush, paint the waterline and the lacrimal caruncle with a flesh color. Fill inside with white paint and a #2 round brush, leaving a hole for the iris. Then, paint the iris with a #2 round brush and teal paint. Smudge some edges with a short blending brushto create smooth shadows and a more realistic appearance.

Step 5:

Add more details to the eye. First, add shadows to the iris with dark blue and dark green paintwith a #1 round brush. With the same brush, add lights with the white paint. Paint the eyelashes with a liner brush and black paint.

Make up your visible eye with a lot of mascara and a soft eyeliner (you can wear false lashes too).

 Step 6:

Add shadows inside the eye with light gray paintand a #2 round brush. Define the iris adding more contrast with the dark green and blue and a #1 round brush.

With the red eyeshadow and the precision brush, add more depth around the painted eye and create the optical illusion of a nasal septum. Add more intense shadows in the corners of the fragments.

With a #1 round brush and red paint, outline the fragment edges. With a lip brush, paint your lips with red lipstick in a heart shape.

Step 7:

Finally, paint tears with gold paintand a #3 round brush. To give it a three-dimensional effect, add shades with the light brown paint. Use a white silver paint to add the lights.

Paint the fake eyebrow with a liner brush and a dark brown paint. Paint the hairs of the eyebrow one by one. You can also paint it as the same color of your hair or wig.

Use a dauber sponge and the red eyeshadow to apply the hearts of the R02 stencil from Ooh Stencils.

Step 8:

Paint your neck and shoulders with black paint and a flat brush. Add pink shadows on your neck and chest with the blending brush. Close your black eye for the picture!
