#2. Panda Head Face Paint Design by Beth MacKinney

Panda Face Paint

Pandas are picky when it comes to food. They love bamboo, however, so the Sneakadoodle Panda would love your help locating some for his lunch.

Step 1: Choose the right or left side of the forehead at the hairline for the placement of your panda face. If you find it easiest to begin by making an outline for your panda face, you can do this by using a small round brush such as the #1 or #2 and Diamond FX white to make an oval. Inside, make two smaller circles, each with a small white dot inside.

Step 2: Since the basic shape of the panda is fairly simple, you might want to completely color in the shape right away with black and white as shown below. Use the #5 round brush for the white and the #2 round for the black, adding a few simple details such as two black ears, a triangular shaped nose, and a small mouth.

Step 3: On the opposite side of the face, add several vertical lines with your #5 round brush and Paradise light green. These are going to become your bamboo stalks.

Step 4: Using the #2 brush and the Paradise dark green, create L shapes down the left side of each bamboo stalk as it shows in the photo. After you finish, make a few lines which come out from the stalks and have long, slender leaves. (Remember to curve in the back of the L a little to simulate the shape of bamboo.)

Step 5: Using the #1 round brush and the Diamond FX black, first outline your bamboo leaves and shoots. Then go back down the stalks with the same method you used for the dark green, placing the black to the outside and below your dark green lines. On the opposite side of the bamboo, use your #1 brush and the Diamond FX white to add curved white highlight lines along the edges of your bamboo stalks.

Step 6: As a final step, add black outlines around the outside of your Sneakadoodle Panda’s head and a few white highlights to the ears with your #1 round, and you’re finished!

#3. Cartoon Panda With Rainbow & Hearts

Cartoon Panda Face Paint Design

Valentine’s Day is the next big holiday, but designs with hearts can be popular any time of the year. If you have some favorites already, it’s easy to dress them up with the addition of some hearts, too.

Step 1: Load your sponge with a combination of the TAG pearl light blue and the TAG pearl white. Sponge this over the eyelid and up onto the forehead. Adding the white keeps the color soft and light, so if you’d like it darker, just omit the pearl white. I like to add some sponged color to the background of a design because I feel it creates a cohesion within the design.

Step 2: Load your 3/4-inch or 1-inch brush and curve a rainbow right over the eyebrow, bringing it down to a point on the cheekbone. You don’t want this to be placed too high on the face, because your panda is going to lay right on top of the upper edge of the rainbow.

Step 3: Use the Diamond FX white and the #5 round brush to create the head and body of your panda. Pandas make adorable cartoon animals, and to insure your panda has good contrast, make sure you really mix up the white with the water well so it’s very opaque.

Step 4: For the ears and black body parts, I used a #2 round brush. It’s big enough to cover the black areas, yet also give some detail when you stay up on the tip. For the eyes, nose, mouth, and fur details, I switched to the #1 round brush because those required a more delicate line.

Step 5: Use your #5 round brush with white again for the clouds. I prefer this style of clouds because they seem more realistic. To create them, press the brush down to make the rounded tops, and then pull out and away on both sides of the bottom, lifting the brush up as you finish each stroke. It’s quick and easy, but if you have difficulty with them, keep practicing. If you’re just not comfortable using a brush for your clouds, use a stencil, which is also a quick and easy way to make nice clouds.

Step 6: Use the #1 round brush to add dots and starbursts around the clouds and rainbow and to add your details on the panda’s paws and the highlights in his eyes. At this point, you could be completely done, and it would be a very cute design.
