Thank ye fer joinin’ us again fer ’tis week’s installment ‘o What’s on ye board? ’tis week we are learning th’ scurvy pirate! So get ye ready to learn th’ barnacle-covered scurvy pirate ways ‘o paintin’.
Enough pirate speak, let’s get started! Here’s what your going to need:

- Wolfe White Face Paints – White
- Wolfe Black Face Paints – Black
- Paradise Black
- Global Body Art Fun Stroke Split Cake – Santorini
- Global Body Art Red Face Paint – Standard Deep Merlot

- Always Wicked Art Butterfly Sponge
- Mehron Stipple Sponge

The Application:
Super Simple Pirate. This is the absolute very basic of pirate designs. Great for those super crunched for time moments in every face painter’s life.
Load your #4 Round brush with Wolfe Black and paint the eye patch, mustache, goatee and scar. Yes, it’s that simple. Again, this is the most simple pirate I would ever do. Personally, I do not like to fill in the eye patch unless the parent’s want it filled.
Basic Pirate – This pirate is my go to design for almost every occasion.
Step 1 – Load your 3/4″ Flat brush with Cameleon Single Stroke Colorblock – Gypsy and beginning on the corner of the forehead, paint the bottom side of the bandanna, including the knotted tie. Continue by adding the other side of the bandanna, again starting in the same corner of the forehead.
Step 2 – Load your #4 Round Brush with Wolfe Black, begin outlining the bandanna as shown.
Step 3 – Continue by painting in the eye patch. I use double straps for this design.
Step 4 – Still using the Wolfe Black and your #4 Round brush, paint the mustache and goatee.
Step 5 – Load your #4 Round brush with Global Merlot and paint a scar on the cheekbone using the same technique as you would for a tiger stripe. With the same brush (no need to rinse out the red) load it with Wolfe Black and lightly outline the scar and add stitches.
Step 6 – Finally, load your #4 Round brush with Wolfe White and highlight the bandanna, eye patch and scar.
Deluxe Pirate – This pirate is a little more detailed, so I save if for birthday parties when time isn’t an issue. It’s especially great for the birthday child.
Step 1 – Load your 1″ Flat brush with Global Body Art Fun Stroke Split Cake – Santorini and beginning on the corner of the forehead, paint the bottom side of the bandanna, including the knotted tie. Continue by adding the other side of the bandanna, again starting in the same corner of the forehead.
Step 2 – Grab a sponge and your Hot Wingz stencil Dots and Drips and sponge on some dots to the bandanna to give it some added dimension. Load your #4 Round Brush with Wolfe White and paint the skull and bones on the middle area of the bandanna.
Step 3 – Load your #4 Round brush with Wolfe Black and paint in the eye patch. I use double straps for this design.
Step 4 – Load your sponge with Paradise Black and sponge in the eye patch to fill it in ( I would still ask if this step is ok with the child and the parents ).
Step 5 – Load your stipple sponge with Paradise black and stipple on the beard.
Step 6 – Load your #4 Round brush with Global Merlot and paint a scar on the cheekbone using the same technique as you would for a tiger stripe. With the same brush (no need to rinse out the red) load it with Wolfe Black and lightly outline the scar and add stitches.
Step 7 – Reload your #4 Round Brush with Wolfe Black and add eyes, nose and teeth to the skull. Continue outlining the skull, bones and bandanna.
Step 8 – Finally, load your #4 Round brush with Wolfe White and highlight the bandanna, eye patch and scar.
