Minecraft is a popular game set in a world that is created out of blocks with “Steve” being the main character or the actual player. While the “Creeper” seems to be the most recognizable, there are many other characters in the game which don’t get much recognition in the face painting world, which is why I chose to paint Steve!
Let’s Get Started!
Step One: blue sky background
The game takes place in a variety of worlds from mountains to swamps so I began with the background of a sky. A 1/2” flat brush is perfect for this design as it has a nice square shape. First, paint a rough white outline where the head will go. Then, paint blue strips down to the line making sure to alter the heights of each section.
Step Two: squares
Use the two center colors of the Melbourne one-stroke with the 1/2” flat brush to make shaded squares over the top of the blue area. Randomly alter the position of each square. Also, add a few white squares to it for variety and depth.
Step Three: skin
Paint Steve’s face and arms with tan paint using the flat brush.
Step Four: facial details
Next, paint the details of Steve’s face: hair, eyes, eyebrows, nose and mouth. Use FAB dark brown for the hair, eyebrows and mouth. Use a lighter brown for the nose and white for the eyes.
Step Five: more details
Add some extra white squares on the skin, randomly placing them at various positions using DFX metallic white which is a bit transparent, making the squares more subtle. Also paint two small blue eyes.
Step Six: shirt
Steve typically can be seen wearing a teal shirt. I used Paradise teal. The 1/2” flat brush makes this super easy!
Step Seven: stencil
To add a little interest in the center, add some squares using the Graffiti Eye stencil with the small squares. I just used a sponge with the one-stroke I used for the sky.
Step Eight: outline
Outline the design with black to give crisp edges to all the elements.
Step Nine: highlights
With white paint, add highlights to make is pop. I also added a few teardrops to each side under the arms just for contrast and interest. It works nice to complete the shape of the whole design.
Now you have another character to offer your Minecraft loving customers besides the creeper. Have them move their cheeks around so they can see his arms go up and down..they will love that!
