Fast Rainbow Cake Tiger by Linnéa

Tiger Face Paint Tutorial

A great tip for a faster face painting is to use rainbow cakes. By using a split cake you get several colours on the same sponge. You get a real wow factor in no time!

Step 1: White Base

Start with the white base. Use a glycerine based white, like this one I use from FAB/Superstar. Make triangular shapes over the eyes and a muzzle with a petal shaped sponge. I did the triangular shapes in a 45 degree angle. Make sure that you cover the upper lip with the white as well.

Step 2: Load Your Rainbow Cake

Take a sponge and spritz it with water. Load your sponge by pulling the sponge back and forwards on the split cake. Make sure that you load it in the same direction as the stripes of colours in your rainbow cake. You can use a half moon sponge or a petal shaped sponge. I prefer to use a petal shaped one, and in that case you should have the darker colour on the rounded edge and the lighter colour on the pointy end. The pointy end makes it easier to use close to the eyes, and the rounded part will make a perfect edge on the cheeks.

Step 3: Use your Rainbow Cake

Now it is time to do the colours for our tiger. Use the bright part on the inside and the dark part on the outside. Dab in on the skin on the forehead, on the cheeks and use the pointy tip to cover the eyelids. If you need more paint, just spritz the cake and reload your sponge.

Step 4: The Muzzle Part

Use a #4 round brush and waxy black to do the muzzle part. Make three rows with dots on each side, with the dots getting smaller and smaller. Paint the nose with a typical "cat wings" so it don`t look like a dogs nose. Paint a little line between the nose and lip. Paint the under part of the lip red or pink and make two fangs with a #2 round brush and waxy white.

Step 5: Tiger Stripes

I used a triangular dagger brush to do the tiger stripes, but you can achieve the same stripes with a normal dagger brush or a #4 round brush. Think about the thin-thick-thin technique. I am making sure that the tiger stripes are pointed in the direction towards the central focal point between the eyes. Paint some whiskers with black, white and a liner brush.
