Broken Doll Face Paint Video Tutorial by Athena Zhe

Porcelain dolls went into popularity during the late 1800s and early 1900s. These dolls are known for their skin-like material.

Tools:

Tips: Always start with a clean face. Make sure that all paints, tools and the work area are all clean. Prepare everything you need before you start.

Let’s paint! 

Step 1. Cover the whole face with White Swan using a sponge.

Step 2. Add some blush on the cheeks using a blush brush and Candy Apple from the Graftobian Blush Palette.

Step 3. Add another tint of Blush color to the cheeks to blend in the rosy cheeks.
Step 4. Cover the eyelids with Shocking Pink using a sponge.

Step 5. Color the eye creases with Wild Violet using a #6 round brush.

Step 6. Blend the purple paint on the eyes using a wide chisel brush.


Step 7. Paint a line of the same color underneath the eyes using the same brush. Then, blend with a chisel brush.


Step  8. Create a white eyeliner on the lower eyelid using White Swan and #2 round brush.


Step  9. Create an outline around the eyes where the eyelashes will be drawn from. Use Raven Black and #1 round brush.


Step 10. Blend the black outline using Eggplant paint and chisel brush.


Step 11. Draw the eyelashes using Raven Black and #1 round brush.


Step 12. Draw the eyebrows using Black and #6 round brush.


Step 13. Paint the lips with Sunset Orange using a #6 round brush.


Step 14. Add some depth to the lips by painting Crimson Red using #6 round brush.


Step 15. Create the iconic doll mouth hinges by drawing a line from the sides of the lips down to the chin. Use #2 round brush and Fuzzy Bear Brown.


Step 16. Add some depth to the hinges by tracing it with Black using #1 round brush.


Step 17. Paint some freckles with Fuzzy Bear Brown and #1 round brush.


Step 18. Give the lips some glare by painting White with #2 round brush.


Step 19. With Graveyard Gray and #2 round brush, draw lines on the cheeks and forehead which will serve as the cracks' edges.


Step 20. Load the #2 round brush with some Black and paint the cracks.
Step 21. Add more the small details to give the cracks a "hollow inside" effect.


Step 22. Add highlights to the cracks with White Swan and #2 round brush.
